bcf2000_1.2

It has taken some time, but I am pleased to present an update to our Virtual BCF2000 Application (original release post). The key features of this release are the removal of the requirement to use MidiPipe, and various bug fixes.

We have new customisable ‘Pro’ versions in the works - watch this space!

As before, enjoy (and if you use it let us know how we can make it better). SteamSHIFT out.

BBC NEWS | Technology | Physics promises wireless power

US researchers have outlined a relatively simple system that could deliver power to devices such as laptop computers or MP3 players without wires.

  1. Power from mains to antenna, which is made of copper
  2. Antenna resonates at a frequency of 6.4MHz, emitting electromagnetic waves
  3. ‘Tails’ of energy from antenna ‘tunnel’ up to 5m (16.4ft)
  4. Electricity picked up by laptop’s antenna, which must also be resonating at 6.4MHz. Energy used to re-charge device
  5. Energy not transferred to laptop re-absorbed by source antenna. People/other objects not affected as not resonating at 6.4MHz

I for one will be watching with much interest!

A first post trying out the http://www.blogmailr.com service.

In short, the service allows you to email your blog post to secret
blogmailr address; it is then posted on to your blog.

Easy and simple? We’ll see!

Just upgraded my home ADSL connection - 5Mbps (with pretty much unlimited bandwidth). Beautiful. And at work … between 12 of us … 1/2 a meg. Nice!

Today I received 2 packages; the first a small delivery from Farnell InOne : 3 endless rotary encoders - with push button built in, and 3 assorted analogue to digital converter ICs. Mmmm … I can feel some experimenting with making custom midi controllers for Quartz Composer coming on. The A/D converters are the missing link between the sensors that I want to hook up and my Basic Stamp (2) which does the processing and midi output. Will post schematics and such when I get somewhere!

Also arriving today was a few parts for my PowerBook screen, the bottom third of which has decided to give up the ghost. It occasionally flickers into life so I’m pretty sure it’s the cable that connects the LCD to the motherboard. All I have to do now is figure out how to crack open the screen enclosure! Oh and if you’re thinking of buying a Powerbook or MacBook Pro - I’d personally recommend buying AppleCare; even taking the screen off the machine is not for the faint of heart (I’m told opening up the screen itself is somewhat of a nightmare), and screens run to £350+

SteamSHIFT out

Try as I might, I find it so hard to maintain consistent motivation to do my day to day work. I just want to play with quartz composer, build visuals, work on ideas for show (ooh … more later). And so on.

Work is the curse of the drinking classes. Indeed well said Ozzie (Wilde that is, of course!).

Good cookery site with loads of recipes and article on things like knife skills, and useful kitchen tools.

à la carte: “Good knife skills are a combination of knowledge and practice—the knowledge of which knives to use for which tasks, the knowledge of how to hold and move a knife, the knowledge of how various foods are structurally composed, and many other little bits of knowledge. This knowledge is only part of the equation. Many hours of practice make up the other part.”
